Nutty Food Recipe Contest

Who Can Enter

1.      To be eligible to participate in this contest, entrants must be California residents who are 18 years of age or older and reside in the KBAK/KBFX viewing area.

2.      Employees of Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., Sinclair Television Group, Inc., Sinclair Television Media, Inc., and any other company which owns, programs or provides other services to television broadcast stations KBAK/KBFX (collectively, the “Station”), Urner’s Appliance Center, Kern County Nut Festival, Kern County Museum, The Douglas Group, Inc. dba UPICKEM, their affiliated companies, advertising and promotion agencies, any and all local television broadcast and cable stations, local radio and other media companies, and the immediate family members of each are ineligible.  The term “immediate family” includes spouses, grandparents, parents, siblings, children and grandchildren. Only one winner per household.

3.      This contest is for amateurs only.  Chefs and other food industry professionals are not eligible to participate.

Recipe Criteria

1.      The Nutty Food recipe contest categories are (1) desserts and (2) entrées.  Only one entry per household, per category. 

2.      All recipes must (1) be original (created by the actual entrant), (2) have almonds, pistachios, pecans or walnuts as a key ingredient, (3) be written in English, (4) not have been previously published, or used for advertising or promotional purposes, and (5) not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity.  

3.      Each entry must (1) include the name of the recipe, (2) contain ingredients commonly found in most grocery stores, (3) list the number of servings that the recipe yields, (4) list the ingredients and their measurements in order of use, (5) include step-by-step preparation and cooking directions, and (6) include a picture of the finished product.  If a contestant submits an entry in each category, each recipe must be different, submitted as a separate entry, and must meet the above requirements. All entries become the property of the Station, and will not be acknowledged or returned.

4.      By entering this contest, entrant acknowledges and agrees that the contest Sponsor and/or the Station may obtain entries in connection with this contest and/or any other contests conducted and/or promoted by the Station/Sponsor that may be similar or identical in theme, idea, format, or other respects to his/her entry(s), or to entries submitted for other reasons or other materials developed by the Station or Sponsor.  Entrant waives any and all past, present, or future claims that any compensation is due to entrant in connection with his/her entry(s) or other works accepted, reviewed, and/or used for this and/or any other contest, or for other reasons or materials developed by the Station or Sponsor.

How to Enter

a.       No purchase is necessary to enter.  Only one entry per household, per category.  The cost of all ingredients and tools needed to prepare the contest entries is solely the responsibility of the entrants.

b.      To enter, log onto www.BakersfieldNow.com to complete the online entry form with your name, address, telephone number, and birth date.  List the recipe in the area provided, upload a picture of your Nutty Food entrée or dessert, and “Submit.”  The picture must depict the entrée or dessert recipe in the final prepared form.  No mechanically reproduced or incomplete entries will be accepted.  Picture must be in JPEG format and up to one (1) MG in size.

c.       By entering, entrants represent and warrant (i) that the recipe is their own original creation and writing, (ii) they own the picture submitted, (iii) the picture does not violate the rights of any third parties, (iv) the picture has not been altered or enhanced with any software (excluding redeye), and (v) that they agree to the terms and conditions located at http://www.bakersfieldnow.com/insideeyewitness/terms.   No lewd, nude, crude, or offensive pictures (as determined by the Station in its sole and absolute discretion) will be accepted.  The Station reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to disqualify any entry.

d.      The contest starts on April 23, 2014, and ends on June 7, 2014 (the “Contest Period”).  All entries must be received by Station by 12:00 p.m. PDT on May 19, 2014, to be considered for the judging.  Station is not responsible for lost, late, or misdirected entries, printing errors, server unavailability, computer or any other electronic malfunction.  

e.       Each entry will be judged and scored by a panel of four (4) judges based on the following criteria: 50% use of key ingredient, 25% picture presentation, and 25% creativity.  The judges will determine 8 (eight) finalists in each recipe category, for a total of sixteen (16) finalists having the highest scores based on the criteria set forth above.  In the event a finalist(s) cannot participate in the required phases of the contest thereafter, an alternate finalist(s) with the next highest score will be selected to become a finalist(s).  In the event of a tie, a finalist will be chosen by random drawing from among the tied finalists.  The decisions of the judges will be final. 

f.       All entries received that are mutilated, tampered with, incorrect, illegible, or from ineligible entrants will be void.  All entries become the property of Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., Sinclair Television Group, Inc., and the Station, and will not be acknowledged or returned.

Prizes and Grand Prize Winner Selection

1.      On May 21, 2014, the names of the finalists will be announced on the contest page of the Station’s web site, www.bakersfieldnow.com.  Finalists will also be notified by telephone.  Finalists must provide their correct names, addresses and telephone numbers to Station at the time of notification.  Details about the next phases of the contest will then be provided, including any kitchen or cooking amenities available for use by the finalists.

2.      Each finalist will win four (4) tickets to attend the final recipe judging at the Kern County Nut Festival on June 7, 2014.  The prize is valued at $40.  The Station and the contest sponsor are not responsible in the event the festival is cancelled or postponed.       

3.      Finalists must sign a release and affidavit of eligibility, which must be received by Station within seven (7) days of notification, at the time finalists claim their tickets in person at the Station.  Finalists must also show picture identification to claim prizes. Station reserves the right to examine additional identification and may choose to accept or deny awarding the prize based on the identification presented.

4.      If a finalist cannot be notified within five (5) days, or does not timely sign and return the release and affidavit of eligibility, then the prize and finalist position will be forfeited, and the prize will remain the property of the Station.

5.      Finalists will be invited to appear during the Eyewitness News Morning Show broadcast on May 30, 2014, between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. at Urner’s Appliance Center.  Participating finalists should bring their completed (or near completed) entrée or dessert to be viewed and sampled by a morning news reporter, and are responsible for any ingredients, tools or utensils needed to complete their entries for sampling, including the cost thereof.  Participating finalists will be asked to sign a written release to appear during the broadcast.

6.      To be considered for the grand prize, finalists will be required to bring their completed (or near completed) entrées and/or desserts for judging at the 2014 Kern County Nut Festival at the Kern County Museum on Saturday, June 7, 2014.  The Station, Sponsor, Kern County Nut Festival, and the Kern County Museum are not responsible if any finalists do not appear for the grand prize judging, or provide the necessary items to create or complete their entrées or desserts.  All transportation to and from the festival, recipe ingredients, preparation/cooking utensils, presentation materials, and the cost thereof are solely the responsibility of the finalists.

7.      Each entry will be judged and scored by a panel of four (4) judges based on the following criteria:  40% taste, 20% presentation, 20% creativity, and 20% texture.  On June 7, 2014, the judges will determine two (2) grand prize winners having the highest scores, based on the criteria set forth above.  In the event of a tie, a grand prize winner will be chosen by random drawing from among the tied winners.  The decisions of the judges shall be final.

The Prize(s)

1.      The two (2) grand prize winners will each receive a KitchenAid® Artisan® Series 5-Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer, Model # KSM150PSPT in “Pistachio.”  Each grand prize is valued at $349.

2.      The grand prize winners will be notified on-site and announced during the Kern County Nut Festival on June 7, 2014.  The grand prize winners must also sign a release and affidavit of eligibility, which must be received by Station when winners claim the grand prizes in person at the festival.  Winners must show picture identification to claim prizes.  Station reserves the right to examine additional identification and may choose to accept or deny awarding the prize based on the identification presented.

3.      There will be no substitutions or cash alternatives for prizes except at the sole discretion of Station.  The Station has the right to substitute a prize of similar value.  No transfer or assignment of prizes is allowed.

4.      Each winner is responsible for paying all local, county, state and federal taxes on prizes based on the estimated retail value of the prizes as set forth in these rules.  Each winner must complete and sign a Form W-9.   

5.      Only one prize will be awarded per household. 

6.      Sinclair Television Media, Inc., Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., and Sinclair Television Group, Inc., are not liable if the provider of any part of the prize fails to satisfy its obligations to furnish its portion of the prize. 

7.  Sinclair Television Media, Inc., Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., and Sinclair Television Group, Inc., are not responsible for any liabilities arising directly or indirectly from the award or use of the prize.

8.  In claiming your prize, you acknowledge that Sinclair Television Media, Inc., Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., and Sinclair Television Group, Inc., have the right to publicize your name, character, likeness, photograph, voice and the fact that you are the winner for promotional purposes without financial remuneration.

Odds of Winning/Miscellaneous

1.   Odds of winning depend on the number of valid entries received and scores from the judging criteria.

2.      Complete contest rules are available Monday through Friday during normal business hours at KBAK-TV/KBFX-CD, 1901 Westwind Drive, Bakersfield, CA  93301, and on the Stations’ website at www.BakersfieldNow.com.

3.      For a list of prize winners, send a separate, self-addressed, stamped envelope to KBAK-TV/KBFX-CD, 1901 Westwind Drive, Bakersfield, CA  93301, by June 30, 2014.

4.      This contest is subject to all applicable laws and regulations and is void where prohibited.  Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., Sinclair Television Group, Inc., Sinclair Television Media, Inc., Urner’s Appliance Center, Kern County Nut Festival, Kern County Museum, and The Douglas Group, Inc. dba UPICKEM accept no responsibility or liability in connection with any injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by or resulting from the acceptance, possession or use of any prize awarded hereunder.

5.      Stations cannot be held liable for any lost or stolen entries, prizes, or contest information.  

6.      Stations reserve the right to make rules and contest changes, and change the aforementioned contest dates.

7.      By entering this contest, each entrant waives any and all claims of liability against the Station, any sponsors, and their respective parent, affiliates, officers, directors, employees and agents, for any and all claims, loss, damage or injury which may occur as a result of entrant’s participation in this contest.
